Biography

Adopted into a progressive family, my father worked with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the Civil rights Movement and protesting the end to senseless wars abroad. This background shaped my need to create work that documents the carnage on civilians during war.

From an early age, I began making and selling beautifully woven belts on an Inkle Loom, showcasing my creativity and love for the arts. I later started painting in acrylic and learned to use power tools for wood construction. This background gave me the desire to explore more of what the art world had to offer in college.

Earning my Associate of Arts degree in Fine Arts and Childhood Development from Santa Ana College, I explored art through oak plywood and paint to create abstract wall reliefs. At California State University, Fullerton, I continued my studies in figurative painting, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts with honors.

For the next 28 years, I taught elementary school students and earned my Master of Arts in Education from Biola University. Throughout my career in education, I continued creating works of art, documenting historical events such as the invasion of Iraq after 9/11, political races, and immigration.

Married to a Mexican citizen, I embraced the culture through watercolors, acrylic, and oil paintings. After his passing and my retirement, I resumed my creativity through fabric to make beautifully crafted artistic quilts and wall hangings, with colors vibrating throughout each piece.

Embracing various cultures in my series of quilts and wall hanging and stressing the importance of historical events through my political paintings, I strive to bring the world a little closer together through peace and dignity.
